Congratulations on the birth or upcoming birth of your baby! There is nothing more satisfying and gratifying - and exhausting - than being a new parent. I've never been more happy and more sleep deprived in my life as when my daughter was a newborn. If you find yourself strolling through Walmart in your slippers - unintentionally - don't cower in the towel aisle. This is the time of your life when you have an excuse to be as lazy and as crazy as you want to be.

This year's Baby Guide has some compelling first-person stories about things you just don't hear much about: home births and providing mama's milk to an adopted baby. What I love about these moms is they knew what they wanted for their babies and they made it happen. They are heroes! There's also a piece by another hero, a local mom of four-going-on-five, who shares how she keeps on keeping on. As a mom of one preteen, I still plan to implement some of her stay-sane ideas.

As you embark on this journey, savor the open-mouthed baby kisses, gurgly giggles, splishy-splash baths and games of peekaboo. These are the moments of a lifetime.
