This new camp is for children with and without disabilities and/or special needs. The camp is designed for children with mild to moderate disabilities to attend day camp with their typical peers.


Fun in the Sun YMCA Camp

Where: J.B. Chambers YMCA, 55 Lounez Ave., Elm Grove, Wheeling

Ages: 5-12

When: May 23-Aug. 11; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (free before- and after-care available)

Build a physics toy, play with magnets and explore the fascinating world of physics. All activities are grade-level appropriate, safe and fun. New activities this year for returning students. Snacks, lunch provided.


GEMS (Girls Enjoying Math and Science) Camp

Where: SMART Centre Market, 30 22nd St., Wheeling

Ages: Girls entering grades 5-8

When: June 26-27, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Learn and have fun at the same time with other girls who love science. Join an all female staff with activities and experiments in many areas of science. Snacks and lunch provided. Funding provided by the Women's Giving Circle of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.


Good Zoo Camps

Where: Good Zoo, Oglebay Park, Wheeling

Ages: 3-4, age 4-entering grade 1, entering grades 2-3, entering grades 4-7, entering grades 6-12

When: June 5-Aug. 18; 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (not all weeks include all age groups) (before- and after-care available). Saturday morning camps available.

Cost: Most are $130 members/$145 non-members weekly. Multiple-week, early registration and half-day discounts; optional box lunches extra.

Horse Lover's Camp

Where: Oglebay Park, Wheeling

Ages: 7 and up

When: May 29-June 2, June 12-16 for beginners; June 26-June 30, July 10-14 for intermediates; July 24-28, Aug. 7-11 for advanced; 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Beginner camp includes horse safety, grooming and basic horse care. Intermediate campers must have had six months of riding lessons. Instruction in safety, horse care, breeds, colors and bandages. Advanced campers will learn canter. All campers will swim in the afternoons.


House of the Carpenter Day Camp - KWEST (Kids Worshipping, Exploring and Serving Together)

Where: Kiwanis Fresh Air Farm, Valley Grove

Ages: Completed grades 1-3

Linsly Day Camp

Literacy Camp

Activities include reading, science, hands-on history, gardening, nutrition and exercise. Each child receives a free, new book of their choice every day. Breakfast and lunch included. Transportation provided.


Missoula Children's Theatre Camp

Where: Strand Theatre, Moundsville

Ages: Entering grades 1-12

When: June 19-24; 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; performance on Saturday.

This year's play is "Treasure Island." Auditions are 10 a.m. Monday, and roles will be announced that day.


Oglebay Institute Day Camps

Where: Schrader Environmental Education Center, Museums of Oglebay Institute, Stifel Fine Arts Center, Towngate Theatre, Wheeling

Ages: 3 and up

When: June 5-Aug. 11

Cost: $75$65 members for preschool half-day nature camps; $120/$105 members for full-day nature and visual arts camps. Prices vary for performing arts, dance and teen camps.

Ohio County 4-H CloverSTEM Day Camp

Where: Garden Park, Warwood, Wheeling

Ages: Completing grades 2-5

Space Explorers Summer Camp

Travel to the Moon aboard the Eagle II spacecraft on a journey to establish a permanent lunar base or Voyage to Mars with a new crew of astronauts to replace the existing crew who has manned Mars Control for the past two years.
