Planning summer fun

June 7, 2016
By Betsy Bethel - Editor , OVParent

The beginning of summer is so full of promise. Even if you have to work all summer long as I do, more hours of daylight and warmer weather bring with them more family time, more outdoor time and simply more fun! (Cicada invasion notwithstanding.)

Some of the great outdoor events coming up at the beginning of summer this year include the Ogden Tiny?Tot Trot and Fun Run at Heritage Port on May 28, the chili cook-off to benefit the United Way of the Upper Ohio?Valley at Heritage Port on June 4, a Medieval/Renaissance period event at the Mansion Museum on June 4, "Zootopia" at Heritage Port on June 10, "Star Wars:?The Force Awakens" at Heritage Port on June 17 and the Wheeling Arts & Culture Fest at Heritage Port on June 18-19. Free summer concerts also take place in most communities throughout the Ohio Valley -?you can find one on every night of the week! For a calendar of family-friendly local events, head to our website,

One thing I'd like to find time to do this summer is hike. From Coopers Rock in Morgantown and Raven Rocks in Monroe County - not to mention Barkcamp, Oglebay and Grand Vue parks - we have plenty of nearby natural trails to explore.

But first, I believe I'll wait till?Brood V heads underground for another 17 years.
