Exciting Changes to the Ogden Tiny Tot Trot and Fun Run

April 18, 2016
By Betsy Bethel - Editor ( , OVParent

Spring has sprung! Whether you have little ones at home or school-age kids, there is lots to do in the next month, from nature programs to concerts to foot races. You can find an updated calendar of events on our website,

We at OV Parent are super excited for the upcoming Tiny Tot Trot and Fun Run on Saturday, May 28, at the Wheeling waterfront. This is a new day and time - Saturday morning instead of Friday night - and there are new courses for both the 100-yard Tot Trot for ages 5 and under and the 1-mile Fun Run for ages 12 and under. We will have more activities for families and really hope to have a great turnout.

The move from Friday night to Saturday morning has several benefits. First, parents do not have to worry about rushing home from work, gathering the kids, getting a bite to eat and getting downtown by 6 p.m. on a Friday night. The Saturday morning time puts our youngest runners at the scene of all the half-marathon and 5K action, so they can experience the excitement of the big races. They can stick around and cheer on the half-marathoners and enjoy the post-race concert at the port.

The new course for the Tot Trot is completely flat (as opposed to slightly down hill) along Water Street from 12th Street south about 100 yards. That race begins at 9 a.m., with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. Parents also can pre-register their little ones online for the free event before May 16 to ensure they receive an activity-filled goody bag the day of the event.

The new course for the Fun Run is bit more challenging than the previous downhill course. The race will begin at the half-marathon start/finish line at 14th and Main streets, eliminating the hassle of busing the children up to the starting line at the windmill. The first half is uphill as it traverses several blocks of the city before the runners head downhill past the YWCA, then along Market, 10th and Main streets, then down 11th past the elephant sculpture, turning onto Water Street where the finish line will be visible ahead of them. The Fun Run starts at 8:20 a.m. so it does not conflict with the other races using parts of the same course. Register online by May 16, or on Friday at the Intermodal Transportation Center on Main and 14th streets or the morning of the race starting at 7:30 a.m. at the OV Parent tent on Water Street. The fee is $15.

The area along Water Street will be filled with tables from our sponsors who will have activities for the kids and information for parents. Ziegenfelder's will be there with their ice pops, and there will be fresh fruit available. Other kid-friendly activities are yet to be announced. We are still gathering our sponsors for this event. Email if interested.

Happy training, little runners!
