Silly Is as Silly Does

by Phyllis Sigal - OV Parent Design Editor , OVParent

Imagine an hour-long telephone conversation punctuated by squeals and giggles and funny faces and silly noises. And that's just my side of the conversation.

I certainly wouldn't have imagined it ... until Norah Grace was born.

It's been a long time since my kids were small, when the best part of a day was dissolving into fits of uncontrollable laughter. But even then, Mom may have been too busy to even think a silly thought on some days.

But now, I have the luxury to be silly - on the phone during a Facetime session, over breakfast with a bowl of mushed up bananas, in the pool gliding her around in her little floatie thing or during a stroll around her Pittsburgh neighborhood.

All with one goal in mind: To extract the sweetest, most glorious, smile-inducing, heart-warming sound in the world - Norah Grace's beautiful belly laugh. It's all I need most days.

Phyllis R. Sigal is design editor at The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register and designer of OV Parent. She is the mom of Amanda, 29, and Leland, 27, and mother-in-law of Christopher, 29. And grandmother to Norah Grace Seidler, 7 1/2 months.
