It's All So New and Shiny

January 12, 2015
By Phyllis Sigal - Design Editor , OVParent

You'd think no one had ever been a grandparent before.

Could that be what everyone's thinking when they see me coming a mile away with my iPhone full of Norah Grace?

But it's all so new. And exciting. And shiny.

We all remember what it's like to have something new to share, right?

Whether it's a baby, a boyfriend, a house, shoes. Doesn't matter. It's like nothing we've ever experienced.

So yes, I'll show my "gramma photo album" via iPhone - thank goodness for iPhones! - to anyone I know. And some people I don't know.

"Do you want to see baby pictures?" I ask, with a glee only to rival a grade-school cheerleader at her first basketball game.

She's all I think about.

I wait all day for the photo du jour to be posted to her Tiny Beans app calendar. I look at my phone just to see her adorable little face that is my new lock screen. When my phone rings, could it be her mom with news of their day?

I'm counting the days to the next Norah visit.

What power such tiny, little creatures have over a new grandparent.

They can literally stop your world.

Phyllis R. Sigal is design editor at The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register and designer of OV Parent. She is the mom of Amanda, 28, and Leland, 26, and mother-in-law of Christopher, 29. And grandmother to Norah Grace Seidler, 2 months.
