'Bursting With Happiness'

December 2, 2014

The text was lost in the excitement. I didn't see what Leland had written until a day or two later.

"You are bursting with happiness in that picture," the little lost text stated.

He was talking about the photo of me I had sent to him, holding that tiny peanut of precious perfection just a couple hours after she joined us in this world on Nov. 9.

Norah Grace Seidler - 6 pounds 12 ounces, 19 1/2 inches of pure joy.

I noticed his text, and looked at the photo again.

He was right.

I was positively bursting. Beaming. Could my smile be any bigger, my eyes any more filled with awe? I don't think so.

What could I have been thinking about at that moment?

Here she is, world! And she's perfect!

That, I believe, is what my expression is projecting.

From the moment I heard she was coming, I just couldn't wait until she got here. I couldn't wait until I could hold her in my arms and, most importantly, know that all was well.

"It'll change your life," so many have said in the months leading up to the big day.

And, boy (I mean, girl), are they right!

All of a sudden I have no desire to retire to Florida. I don't believe Skype or facetiming would do it for me!

All of a sudden, the shopper in me gravitates to Baby Gap as opposed to Banana Republic.

All of a sudden, my work calendar is filling up with days marked off to spend with my girls.

All of a sudden, much to my delight, Amanda is calling every couple of days to give me updates. She's never been much of a phone conversationalist, but she's been terrific lately at reporting on their days.

All of a sudden my little girl is a mom. And such a good, capable, confident one at that. I love watching her with her newborn.

And all of a sudden, my days and months and years ahead have new meaning - so much promise and so much to look forward to. Hugs and smiles and all those milestones. And so much love.

Thanks, Chris and Amanda and Norah Grace! This is going to be fun!
