Hilltop Elementary Says: It's Easy Being Green

October 3, 2014
OVParent

Since the school's opening in the fall of 2009, the Hilltop Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organziation has been dedicated to promoting a recycling program. Their efforts have paid off with a check for $1,000 from the Pepsi Dream Machine Recycle Rally for finishing ninth place in the country in their category for the 2013-14 school year.

The program recycles No. 1 plastic drinking bottles including pop, water, juice and sports drinks. It does not recycle other plastic like milk jugs or packaging. Those items can be taken to locations in Ohio County.

Drink pouches and ink jet cartridges are also being collected and sent to TerraCycle as a fundraiser.

In addition to efforts by the school, numerous families and businesses in the community support the recycling efforts by saving recyclables and spreading the word to others.

All items can be dropped off at the recycling trailer located at Hilltop Elementary courtesy of Howard Coffield and the Marshall County Solid Waste Authority.

The trailer also has a section for aluminum cans being collected as a fundraiser by the Sherrard Road Runners 4-H club.

For more information about Hilltop's recycling activities or to become involved, call Jodi Calissie at 304-312-5373.
