Make a Paper Jack O'Lantern

September 30, 2011
Provided by Oglebay Institute Visual Arts Department
Make several of these paper lanterns and string them up around the house for a festive atmosphere.

Marterials Needed: 9-inch by 12-inch orange construction paper Black construction paper Scissors Glue Tape or Stapler String or Yarn Ruler Pencil Paper Hole Punch (optional) Directions: 1. Hold the orange paper (12 inches tall), now fold in half left to right. 2. Using a ruler, draw a line from the folded side (left side) across the paper, stopping 2 inches from the right side; draw these at every inch down the 12-inch folded side. 3. Cut the lines you have drawn. 4. Unfold the paper and create a 12-inch tall cylinder shape, taping the ends of the paper lantern together. 5. Cut the eyes, nose and mouth out of the black construction paper and glue to the orange paper lantern. 6. Punch holes at the top and hang it with a string or yarn. Or you could display on top of a flameless/electric candle.
