CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia students are being encouraged to share their reading experiences through a video contest.
The state Department of Education announced the competition Monday in which students would create 3-minute videos showing why they love to read.
The department says in a release the videos can feature characters from students' favorite books, interviews with friends, or simply an account of their own reading experiences.
Entries will be accepted until May 20. The videos will be judged on originality, creativity, adherence to the theme and overall quality.
First-place winners from elementary, middle and high school levels will receive an Amazon.com Kindle electronic reader.
State Schools Superintendent Jorea Marple says the contest is intended to help students understand the importance of reading.
